Merstham police are appealing for witnesses following distraction burglary at an elderly lady’s house in Merstham. The incident happened at 4.40pm on, Saturday, 1 May, when the a man posing as a plumber told the 81-year-old victim he needed to check the taps and water supply to prevent her neighbour’s property from flooding.

Local Police are reminding residents not to use tradesman who cold-call at their homes after a number of elderly residents were conned out of more than £9,000.

Merstham residents are being warned to make sure they keep car keys safe and out of sight following an attempted burglary this week.

Local Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a teenage boy at an address in Brook Road, Merstham, which occurred on the evening of March 11.
Police have confirmed that a firearm was involved in this incident but there is no risk to the wider public.

Merstham residents ars being asked to help Surrey County Council’s trading standards team in the fight against scam mail by making February Scamnesty month.
Between 1 and 26 February 2010 there will be Scamnesty bins at the Merstham HelpShop on Portland Drive and the Age Concern building on Weldon Way for residents to dump their scam mail.
