Police appeal for witnesses after arson attack

Matchstick Around 10.10pm on Sunday, 24 January, a fire was deliberately started at a property in Huddlestone Crescent, causing a substantial amount of damage. No-one was inside the house at the time.

A 22 year-old man from Tadworth has been arrested on suspicion of arson and is in custody at Reigate Police station.

Officers would like to talk to anyone who was in the area between 6pm and 10pm and believes they may have seen something suspicious.

Neighbourhood Inspector Charlotte Rimmer, said: “Arson is a very serious offence and people’s lives are put at risk. Thankfully, no-one was in the house at the time of the fire, but it could have been very different.

“Surrey Police and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service have highly trained professional investigators who are successful in identifying non-accidental fires and improvements in scientific techniques are leading to an increase in criminal prosecutions of deliberate fires.

“I would also like to assure the local community that this type of incident is rare and by working closely with our colleagues at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and with the community we will work hard to identify who was responsible. I would urge anyone who believes they may have seen something or have information that they feel is relevant to please give Surrey Police a call.”

Anyone with information should call Detective Inspector Tony Giles at Reigate CID on 0845 125 2222 quoting reference RB/10/722.

It's very calm over here, why not leave a comment?
