Mayor helps to launch Merstham Neighbours scheme

The Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Cllr Richard Mantle, attended the official launch of Merstham Neighbours at the Village Hall in Merstham.

Merstham Neighbours is a local volunteers scheme offering assistance and support to any residents in the Merstham area, who may need a little extra help.

Merstham Neighbours started recruiting volunteers early last year and now have almost 50 people checked and trained and ready to start helping people

Volunteers are on hand to help local people with

• Transport
• Picking up prescriptions
• Form Filling
• Dropping in for a chat and a cup of tea
• Shopping

We may also be able to help with other enquires. Please call us on 07733 555 316.

The helpline is manned Monday to Friday between 10-12 noon. It is not setup to be an ‘emergency service’ and they ask for at least 48 hours notice to be able to respond to an individuals needs. Merstham Neighbours do not charge for their services but do ask for a small donation towards the cost of petrol.

Cllr Mark Brunt – Merstham Ward Councillor:
”This is a great scheme that says so much about the community spirit that exists in Merstham. Local people have always looked out for each other and Merstham Neighbours will extend that community support to even more people.

I was able to support this scheme last year through my councillors community awards fund and this helped the group to cover some of the initial setup costs.

I am really please to see how far this group has come in such a short time and congratulate the hard working team that have driven this local project to its launch today. I will continue to support the scheme where I can and I am sure that it will serve as a glowing example of the community sprit that continues to exits here in Merstham.” 

Volunteers
All volunteers are from the Merstham area and are eager to offer time for their community and the Merstham Neighbours scheme has made this possible. Merstham

Neighbours volunteers are all CRB checked and have received training. Every Merstham Neighbours volunteer has a photo id card so that residents can feel confident that they are dealing with an official volunteer.
