Council confirm NO plans to cut Merstham Bus service

Surrey County Council officers have confirmed that Metrobus has no intention of withdrawing the vital bus service from Merstham despite the alarmist headlines in the local media.

Since the article was published many concerned residents have contacted Merstham councillors expressing fears about the impact of the removal of Merstham’s bus services.

The Merstham bus service is subsided by SCC, if Metrobus chose to be de-registered as a Department of Transport provider SCC would re-tender for a new service provider, as per normal practice.

Merstham County Councillor Dr Zully Grand-Duff
”A recent inspection by the county inspector at Redhill bus station found that 9 out of 10 430/435 services arrived/departed within 4 min of the published time. A new timetable for the service has come into force on May 2nd.

The timetable changes, which importantly do not affect stops at Merstham and East Surrey Hospital, have already resulted in improved punctuality and reliability“
