Yellow lines proposed to stop A23 Junction Parking

Reigate & Banstead Local Committee on Monday 1st March will consider recommends to add double yellow lines around the key junctions onto the A23 in Merstham. Current irresponsible parking has lead to a regular number of accidents where drivers pulling out of side roads such as Station Road North have been unable to view on-coming traffic due sight lines being blocked by parked cars.

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s share of the annual council tax bill looks set to be frozen at last year’s rate, after the Executive agreed to recommend a 0% increase.
If agreed at the meeting of the full Council on 11 February (2010) it would be first time in the Council’s history there has been no rise.

Residents save on energy bills with energy monitor lending scheme

More than 400 residents have taken advantage of a Surrey County Council scheme designed to help save up to £150 each year on energy bills. The energy monitor lending scheme has proved most popular in Reigate and Banstead, with 64 individuals and families borrowing the devices from one of the borough’s six libraries during October and November.

Merstham residents ars being asked to help Surrey County Council’s trading standards team in the fight against scam mail by making February Scamnesty month.
Between 1 and 26 February 2010 there will be Scamnesty bins at the Merstham HelpShop on Portland Drive and the Age Concern building on Weldon Way for residents to dump their scam mail.

Council aiming to cut energy usage by 30%

Council’s Executive have agreed to target a reduction in the Council’s own energy usage, and hence carbon emissions, of 30% over the period to 2014. The Council has been undertaking a major project with the Carbon Trust to identify ways of saving energy.

Merstham youth to benefit from new opportunities

Surrey County Council will oversee the creation of up to 350 jobs for young people after helping the Surrey Economic Partnership win nearly £2.3 million to tackle unemployment. Surrey’s youth unemployment hotspots, such as Merstham is to be earmarked as one of the priority area.
