Residents are being invited to see Oscar-winning film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ for free. Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Parador Properties are bringing together businesses and residents to see the thought provoking film and to consider what they can do to reduce their impact on the environment.
The special screenings of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, starring Al Gore, are on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 June at the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill.
Cllr Julian Ellacott, the Council’s Executive Member for Environment, said “Our aim with these events is to encourage residents to think about what they can do to cut their use of the world’s natural resources, and so improve the prospects for the future of our environment.
“After the film, there will be stands and information available to enable people to learn more about caring for their local environment, as well as a range of free materials to help make those important changes. All of the film-goers will be encouraged to sign-up to a “Pledge”, which outlines a number of actions which people can take to help the environment in which we live.
”This event ties in with the Council’s recently launched environmental campaign to ‘Love Where You Live’, which encourages residents to have a positive impact on their local, national and global environment.
“The Council has also been looking at our own use of energy and water, and we will be making our activities more environmentally friendly as a result. We have also set up a new webpage that provides energy efficiency advice, with links to other useful sources of information and special deals for Borough residents - visit it at www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk/energyefficiency.”
In the film, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ bracing facts and future predictions combine with the story of Gore's personal journey: from college student to a young Senator whose family tragedy altered his perspective. He almost became President but instead returned to the cause of fighting climate change.
The Council’s Policy and Community Initiatives Officer, Raymond Dill, has organised the events. He said: “Join us. The showings are free but admission is by pre-booked ticket only. The film ‘An starts at 7.00pm both evenings, and is part of the Council’s wider programme to raise awareness and promote action to reduce our environmental impact. Our thanks go to Parador Properties Ltd, of Redhill, for sponsoring these events.”
ADVANCE ticket booking is available through the Harlequin Box Office on 01737 765547.
